Celtics drop as Bulls take East's no.1

The Chicago Bulls have moved into the top spot in the Eastern Conference after a convincing 98-79 win over the Washington Wizards.

The Bulls currently sit with the second best record overall, still six wins behind the Spurs.

The Boston Celtics currently are a half game behind the Bulls with Miami and Orlando rounding out the top 4. Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia and Indiana round out the top 8 eastern teams with just under a month to go in the regular season.

San Antonio leads the west with, Dallas, Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma also leading for first round home court. Denver, New Orleans, Portland and Memphis are the 5-8 in the west.

If Chicago manages to hold on to this number one seed it will mean that they would have home court advantage in any series in the east. This could mean big problems for teams such as Miami and Boston who will be likely to face the Bulls at some point. History shows that for young teams such as the Bulls are this year, home-court can have a huge advantage.

A number 1 eastern seed would also likely secure the MVP honours for PG Derrick Rose, as traditionally win/loss record has played heavily on the results for the award.
