Memphis’ Rudy Gay out for season

Memphis Grizzlies star forward Rudy Gay will be forced to sit out the rest of the 2011 NBA season after a left shoulder dislocation. The injury, which occurred in mid- February is considered so severe that surgery will be required to fix it. The team is hopeful he should return for the start of f next season.

With Gay out for the remaining month of the regular season and for the whole playoffs the Griz’s chances of retaining their 8th seed are falling.
Management hopes veterans Tony Allen and Shane Battier as well as young guns O.J Mayo and Xavier Henry will pick up the load going into the playoffs.
Should the Grizzlies slip from here on out they are at risk to losing their spot to both the Houston Rockets and the Phoenix Suns.

Before the injury, Gay was having a breakout season averaging 19.8PPG and 6.2RPG in just less than 40 minutes a game.

The Grizzlies currently are 39-32 with 11 games remaining in the season.
