University of Duke freshman, and potential number 1 NBA pick Kyrie Irving will nominate for the upcoming draft.
Duke Head coach Mike Krzyzewski released a statement on Thursday stating that the point guard will hire an agent soon, forgoing his last three years of college eligibility.
In 11 games for Duke this season Irving has averaged 17.5 points and 4.6 assists a game. He has also been great in his shooting with averages of 53% from the field, 90% from the free throw line and 46% from long range.
Irving missed 26 of Duke’s games this season after suffering a foot injury in December but played well in his 3 games after returning from injury.
Irving was a top-5 recruit coming out of high school and is now considered to be the most likely player to go number 1 overall in the NBA draft. Irving is the projected top pick in 2 of the 3 major NBA mock draft websites.
Also leaving Duke this season are seniors Nolan Smith and Kyle Singler with sophomore Mason Plumlee also considering leaving Duke for the draft.
The Blue Devils will hope to reload next year with incoming guard and top-5 national prospect Austin Rivers. The son of Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, Austin is considered to be the best incoming SG in the game and one of the top five of the High School class.
Also committed for next season are center Marshall Plumlee, forward Michael Gbinije and guard Quinn Cook.
