The Sydney Kings have re-signed head coach Ian Robilliard for the 2011-12 NBL season. In a unanimous decision the board renewed the rookie coach’s contract after a good first season with the Kings.
Robilliard, who once played for and was an assistant coach in Sydney, will now get a chance to make a long term effect in the Kings’ organisation. With the right opportunity in terms of player personnel, the Kings could definitely push for a playoff spot next season.
The Kings moved off the bottom of the NBL later this weekend with a 76-72 win over current bottom dwellers, the Adelaide 36’ers.
They are currently 8-17 in their first season back after a two-year hiatus from the league.
Within the coming weeks the Kings are also expected to announce the re-signing of rookie point guard Ben Magden. Magden is currently scoring 9.6PPg off 45%FG shooting.
Little news exists concerning star center and MVP candidate Julian Khazzouh.
Khazzouh is the only Kings player currently under contract for season 2011-12, but Kings management has said publically they wouldn’t stand in his way, if an NBA or major European contract is offered to him.
He is currently leading the league in rebounds (10.2RPG), second in blocks (1.9) and fourth in league in scoring (17.6PPG).
If the Kings are to contend next season there is no doubt they will need their young star to return.
